Are you wondering if I am the right choice? Let me share with you just a little bit more about my background and experience working with and supporting families and children.
I have had the desire to work and be helpful from a young age, with of course, babysitting being my very first job working with families and children. As the years passed by I found myself growing more and more interested in working with children which led me to a career in education. I have been an elementary school teacher for 15 years and I absolutely love it. I have made very positive connections with my students' families over the years and I make it a point to respect them and their experiences all while supporting their children in a loving and patient way. This is something I can bring forward with me as I practice doula work.
I have also been a mentor for new educators which has allowed me an opportunity to know their fears, insecurities, and worries in their new teaching position. I have been a support to them emotionally whenever they may have needed it. Whether it was dealing with a failed lesson plan, challenges with student behaviors, navigating social situations within the building, or just listening after a long day. I have shown compassion and trustworthiness to the new educators I have been placed with over the years and this is also something I plan to bring forward while practicing as a doula.
Lastly, but certainly not last...I am a mother and I have been in your shoes. My pregnancy and birthing experience has given me a passion to be there for other mothers. I want to be the shoulder moms lean on when they are feeling weak. I want to be the ear that listens without judgement. I want to be the voice that reminds you that you are enough and you can do this!
